Interested in starting a program?
We'll do all that we can to help!
Below are answers to the questions we are most
frequently asked. If you can't find what you need to know here -
or would prefer to speak to someone at ABPA please contact us.
Q. Where do I
get the signs?
A. The signs are provided
free of charge by the Provincial Program but the Program pays the
shipping.
Q. How much
money will we need?
A. There is a yearly
registration fee which varies according to population. Most
of the Programs in Alberta are fairly small so usually the cost
per year is $30.00. You may need other funds to help promote
the Program in your community but do not hesitate to ask small
businesses in your area to help out.
Q. How many people
are needed to form a board?
A. Ideally you would have
at least three. You want a Chairperson, treasurer and secretary. Signing
authority for your Program bank account must be two persons who
are not related (husband & wife). The Board or committee
ensures the smooth operation of the Program.
Q. How does the application
process work?
A. All members in a family
must be on the application form and you will require two pieces
of identification from all those over the age of 18 years in
the home.
Most Alberta communities are under the jurisdiction of the RCMP so
they will do the screening and will let the BP Program know the results
and if all have passed screening, a block parent sign is issued.
Screening is done every two years.
Q. What is Business
Block Parent and how do we take part in this Program?
A. Business Block Parent was
started due to a lot of women now in the work force and not at
home. Those in a Business Block Parent business must have all
their employees screened every two years also and there must
be no more than 8 employees. The business is given a decal
that goes on the glass door or window of the shop.
